For the past few months, panels.store has been quietly serving readers on the web — a place to buy DRM-free comics from indie creators and publishers.
Today, the store comes home. Panels Store is now built into the Panels app on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
What this means for readers
You can now browse and buy comics directly inside the app you already use to read them. After purchase, you choose how you want to read:
- Download the files to your device for offline reading and add them to your library — they're yours, in standard formats, with no DRM.
- Stream them on demand if you'd rather not fill up your storage. Open a book and start reading; pages load as you go.
Either way, your purchase is permanent. Nothing is locked to Panels. You can move the files, back them up, or read them in any other app that supports the format.
Why we built it this way
Most digital comic stores are walled gardens. You buy a book, and it lives inside an app you don't control, on terms that can change overnight. We wanted the opposite: a store where readers actually own what they buy, and creators get a fair deal for selling it.
Thank you to our launch partners
This launch is only possible because of the creators and publishers who joined us early — before the app integration, before the marketing, when Panels Store was just a promise on a webpage. Thank you for trusting us with your work.
A note for existing Panels readers
Panels started as a DRM-free reader for your own library, and that is still what it is at its core. The Store is an addition, not a pivot.
It exists for two reasons: to give indie creators a fair place to sell their work, and to help new users actually start reading. A lot of people download Panels with an empty library and no idea where to find DRM-free comics — the Store is our answer to that.
Much of what we have planned for 2026 has nothing to do with the Store and everything to do with making Panels better for the people who bring their own libraries.
Panels will keep being Panels.
